Frank Cho cover Masquerade #1

Here’s the pencil to the Masquerade #1 variant cover from Dynamite Entertainment.

This was a pain to draw.
How do you make a female crime fighter sexy when she’s covered up in a large trench coat?
I struggled with this for few days and came up with this.
I don’t think I solved the “sexy” problem.

You win some. You lose some.

February 17, 2009 – Seattle, WA — Already featuring an amazing list of contributors, the 2009 Emerald City ComiCon artbook, MONSTERS & DAMES, will feature a cover by superstar artist Frank Cho.

“With a penchant and reputation as one of the best artists for drawing beautiful women and crazy monsters, Frank was a natural choice to provide the cover for MONSTERS & DAMES,” said ECCC Organizer Jim Demonakos. “Luckily, he was able to fit it in to his schedule and created this stunning piece, which was colored by the talented Nathan Fairbairn.”

MONSTERS & DAMES is a 9″ x 12″ full-color 48-page hardcover artbook that will be available exclusively at the 2009 Emerald City ComiCon, the premier comic book and pop culture convention in the Pacific Northwest. Part of the proceeds from sales of the art book will benefit the Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Limited to 850 individually numbered copies, it features original “Monsters & Dames” illustrations from artists such as Bruce Timm, Mark Brooks, Stuart Immonen, Ben Templesmith, Dustin Nguyen, Colleen Coover, Howard Chaykin, Dave Johnson, Brandon Peterson, Tommy Lee Edwards, David Hahn, Shane Glines, Becky Cloonan, Steve Lieber, Tony Harris, David Peterson, Kieron Dwyer, Scott Morse, Mike Huddleston, Jim Mahfood and dozens more, while Richard Starkings of Comicraft provided the logo.

The Seventh Annual Emerald City ComiCon will be taking place at the Washington State Convention & Trade Center in beautiful downtown Seattle, Washington on April 4th & 5th, 2009. For complete details on the event, including art book contributors, guest list, exclusives and more, visit
