Also I’ll be doing a full oil/acrylic painting of Poison Ivy Saturday morning on stage at the convention floor for the Baltimore Comicon Art Auction. The finished painting will be auctioned off Saturday night around 6 pm on the convention floor/lobby.

See you guys at the big show.

One word: Wow.

This was by far one of the best conventions that I’ve attended in years. This felt like San Diego Comicon before Hollywood took over. It was the right blend of comic books, games and media guests, but with comic books in the main spotlight.

I had a blast hanging out with my old friends and meeting new ones. One guy particularly stands out in my mind, Nate Simpson. He has a new book coming out from Image Comics called Non Player. The artwork is simply stunning. Simpson takes the very best of Moebius, Geof Darrow and twist them with his unique vision. Watch out for this guy. He’s the real deal.

The attendance was unreal. It easily doubled last year’s attendance. It was packed all 3 days. I completely sold out of all my books by Saturday afternoon. You heard right, COMPLETELY SOLD OUT of my crap on Saturday. This hasn’t happened to me in 3 years since the recession hit.

I realized that in 15 years of attending comic conventions, I hardly took pictures. So on Sunday since I had nothing to sell, I remembered my camera and walked around and took pictures of my friends while I still had hair. Here are just few of the pictures I took.

Congrats to Jim Demonakos and crew for putting on the best comic convention of the year and starting the convention season with a bang. I can’t wait for the next Emerald City Comicon.

FRANK CHO - Wolverine study

I’ve decided to take the plunge and teach figure drawing with the emphasis on the female form at this year’s Big Wow ComicFest in San Jose.

This is a free art class which I’ll be teaching. Yup, FREE ART CLASS. I’m going to do a live drawing demo and critique everyone’s art in the class. This free drawing class is part of the special panel programming at the new San Jose comicon called “Big Wow ComicFest”. I will be just one of many professionals who will be giving free art lessons at the comic convention. These free lessons range from pencil drawing to oil painting. More free classes will be announced as well as the instructors in the upcoming weeks.

The Big Wow Comic Fest will be held on MAY 21 – 22 at the San Jose Convention Center.

So reserve your comic convention ticket now. For more info, go to:

Oh, all you cosplay people better get your costume ready. There will be a massive COSTUME CONTEST at the show also, with a large CASH PRIZE for the winner.

Here is a Wolverine figure study that I did in preparation for a large X-Men cover. Enjoy.
