Just got back home last night and still recovering from the show and the travel. For those thinking of attending next year’s Big Wow Comic Fest mark your calender. All the future Big Wow Comic Fest will fall on the third week of May. Besides my drawing class, we have several top talents lined up for art demonstrations including oil painting.

FRIDAY – Came in late. Flight from Phoenix was delayed due to the storms in midwest. Had a dinner meeting with the Robert Clarke and the guys at Paragon Studios, while my girlfriend, Mara, had dinner with the Big Wow Comic Fest guests including Star Trek’s Denise Crosby and the master painter Sanjulian. I didn’t know Denise Crosby was Bing Crosby’s grand daughter.

SATURDAY – Busy day. There was a long line of people waiting to get into Hall 3 where the convention was held when I showed up in the morning. The cool thing was there was a women volley ball tournament going on in Hall 2. Got to see lot of women in volleyball uniforms walking the floor. My new Sketches and Scribbles Book 6 sold very well. I think couple of copies were up on eBay that night. I had a fun panel talk with Jim Silke, Tex, and Mark Beechum’s assistant about the art of pin-ups. After lunch, I taught my drawing class with Ivy Doomkitty modeling for the class. She was dressed as Ms. Marvel. She was outstanding. About 70 people showed up for my free art class. For the first hour or so, we all drew Ivy on stage. A video camera showed my drawing being sketched out via live feed onto the big screen. Our own messageboard “Tedblog” Ted assisted by literally holding the camera throughout the entire demonstration. The tripod didn’t quite work out so Ted literally had to hold the camera for 2 hours. (Thanks Ted.) The last 30 minutes, I took 8 samples from the class and critiqued them on the big screen. There were several talented students in attendance. Good stuff. After the show, we had dinner with Ivy, her husband Dave, his brother and his lovely wife at a Thai restaurant after we abandoned looking for a good sushi restaurant.

SUNDAY – Slow day but things picked up after lunch. I sold out of all my books at the end of the show. I had my big raffle drawing-panel where I drew 1 character, 1 action, 1 setting in 1 hour. Things got pretty heated as the audience couldn’t make up their mind on the character. Emma Frost was in the lead with She-Hulk in close second as the character to draw, until I realized the limited choice of action the audience was calling out. (Emma sitting on chair, Emma playing pool, Emma punching a mirror, etc.) So I took control and decided to draw She-Hulk and the audience followed my lead and quickly shouted out better choices of action. We chose She-Hulk dressed as Emma Frost fighting Rhino in the courtroom. Like in the drawing class, the video camera projected the drawing from start to finish onto the big screen. As I drew, I answered questions from the the audience. There were some pretty funny and odd questions. It was a blast. At the end of the hour, the original art was raffled off right there on stage. Later, Mara and I had our annual dinner with John Higashi, Ng brothers, Engineer Eric, Adam Hughes, Allison Sohn, Riki and Chris at the sushi restaurant.

MONDAY – We went to the winery owned by Travis Charest wife’s family. We drank and ate BBQ courtesy Dana and Seth. The weather was great great, sunny with cool breezes. Unfortunately, no football game. Nobody brought the football this year. But other than that, we had a lovely time. Afterward, we grabbed dinner at Original Joe’s, and then caught the “Brides Maids” movie with Mara, Adam, Chris and Riki. Good time had by all.

TUESDAY – Got up early. Flew home on Southwest. No drama except at the baggage claim in Baltimore. I thought they lost one of my luggage (my banner) but it turns out that it was at a different baggage claim area because of the odd size.

Before I forget, I would like to thank Steve “Law-Boy” Morger and crew for another great San Jose show. I know there were some hiccups but with talented people onboard for next year, I think San Jose Big Wow Comic Fest will grow into a stellar and unique show. I can’t wait for next year.

Well, kids. Looks like I’ll be coming to Calgary, Canada on April 27 – 29 for Calgary Comics and Entertainment Expo, and Chicago’s C2E2 on April 13 -15.

I’ll post more updates as things firm up.

Don’t forget I’ll be at MEGACON in Orlando, Florida in 2 weeks time. I’m thinking of doing one sketch at the show. Stay tuned.

Also I’ll be doing a FREE figure drawing class/art demonstration at San Jose Big Wow Comic Art Fest on May 19-20. As matter of fact, there will be several FREE art class/art demonstrations by some of the top talents in the business at Big Wow Comic Art Fest. And Juanjo Guarnido, the co-creator and artist of the critically acclaimed “Black Sad”, will make his first US appearance. So register early and pre-order your convention tickets.
