Itís been a while since I did one of these intense ink pieces. (My ďBreaking In My PensĒ pieces.) These really test my patience and the steadiness of my drawing hand. But once the lines are drawn just right, the eyes blend the black and white lines into dazzling gray tones.

(Hell, if my comic book gig ever dries up, I guess I have a second career as an engraver.)

This is a study for a cover that Iím doing for Marvel. Iím still working out the ink line tonal efffects but Iím happy with the overall composition. Iíll post the finished art once Marvel releases the cover image officially.

This is done with Micro Pigma pens, size 08 and 01, on Strathmore Bristol board, vellum surface.

Do you use any reference for the drapery these days, Frank?

I remember at a signing years ago when you were selling a "Breaking in my pens" print of Brandy reclining & reading, with Truman in the lower corner, you told me that you draped a towel over something to do part of her skirt; are you still doing that?

Yes, I'm using photo references and real props for this one. I have a cool book on graveyard statues and church artwork. Lot of cool pictures of ghastly and weeping statues.

The Grim Reaper is based on a Mary statue in an Italian church. I added the hood, wings and modify the draperies to eliminate Mary's boobs and hips, and make it look more masculine.
