I'm still recovering from the Chicago Wizard World Comicon. It's unbelievable how much work piles up in such a short time.
This here's a forgotten art from Dave Colombo's vast art collection. (And I do mean vast. It's like the freakin' Smithsonian for comic and Simpson art.) It's my unfinished Madman pinup that was originally intended for Mike Allred's artbook. For whatever reason, I abandoned it during the pencil stage. (The figures didn't look right to me and I had trouble capturing the girl's likeness.)
The "Toaster Fight" image was finished and published instead.
Dave bribed me to ink the Madman figure when I was in Iowa, signing at Mayhem's Comic shop in Ames many moons ago.
I don't know what he bribed me with, but it gotta been good.

| Looks like Don Draper quit Sterling Cooper and took on a life of crime-fighting! |

I've got to say, the girl has a bit of an oh-my-god-Madman-is-going-to-rape-me-look on her face.
Still an awesome pic, Frank! |

I'm sure it was food. Probably steak. We were actually in Des Moines. Frank did a signing in Ames the day before. I was running late and got to the Des Moines Mayhem store with about an hour left in the signing. I had gotten the pencils from him in Baltimore the year before but forgot to get him to sign it. I brought it with to get signed. No one else was in line. He pulled out his trusty #8 Micron to sign the pencils and just went to town. No one was there and he was bored. We then went and ate cooked meat. I really like that it is unfinished. Most of Franks pencils are destroyed when he inks them now and I like this rare look into his working process.
I also think he nailed the look of Madman and Joe. What you can't see in the scan is his loose pencils of a giant skull behind them and all hell breaking loose around them.

Steak, shoebox full of twenties, and some corn-fed Iowian beauties. I think. I could be wrong. _________________ Liberty Meadows |
