Here it is!!

The new Sketches and Scribbles Book 5!!!!

Itíll be out this summer at San Diego Comicon. Itíll be 80 pages of black and white finished art and sketches that Iíve done in the past year and a half, with full color cover on thick card stock. Lot of Princess of Mars art, jungle girls and Ultimates prelims.

Instead of the usual 3000 copies, Iíll be printing less this year. So first come, first served.

Iíll be at the BIG WOW ART booth this year at San Diego, next to Adam Hughesí table. See you ladies there.

Wow, that's an incredible cover. Will this book be sold anywhere besides the comi-con? 'Cause I can't make it down there.

Instead of 3000 copies, I'm only printing 2500 copies.

But don't worry, I'll save some for Baltimore Comicon in October.

Meh. Might have to ask one of you fine monkey-boys to grab me a copy. Tell me how much it is, and I'll send you a check.

Frank, any particular genus you were going for with that marchairodont? Looks like Smilodon populator given the saber-length and overall size.

Fun facts: S. populator is one of three (possibly two) species of Smilodon. It was the largest, heaviest feline that ever existed. The other species, S. fatalis and S. gracilis, weren't slouches themselves. The former was as large as the modern Siberian tiger, while the latter was much smaller--about the size of a small mountain lion but stockier and heavier.

Smilodontine cats probably used their saber-teeth for precision cutting of the windpipe and jugular veins of their prey. Surprisingly, only a few genera evolved truly "saber"-like teeth, including Smilodon, Megantereon, and Paramarchairodus. Most other marchairodont cats belong to the "dirk-toothed" or "scimitar-toothed" bauplan, with lither bodies and smaller, stout canines (Marchairodus, Homotherium). Many scimitar-toothed cats developed venturally-directed flanges on the lower jaw that the canines would rest against while the mouth is closed.

Modern felids do not include any marchairodonts, who seem to have gone extinct along with most of the world's herbivorous megafauna about 12,900 years ago. Until that time, however, they were the world's top carnivores, even making quick work of early hominids (watch out, monkey-boys!).

Saber-teeth have appeared many times in synapsid evolution. Even its earliest members, the polyphyletic "pelycosaurs" developed them (most famously in Dimetrodon). Other mammalian carnivore guildes to develop giant canines include borophagine nimravid "cats" and creodonts!

1) Nathan Fairbairn, a super talented colorist from Canada, colored this.

2) The price of Sketches and Scribbles Book 5 will be $20.

3) Bud Plant will mostly likely will carry it. Depends on how many I have left.
