Frank-Cho pencil sketches

I’m a constant scribbler, always doodling and sketching on margins of
my notebook and scrap pieces of paper. It’s a habit that has hurt me
in school but helped me in my art career. It allows my mind to wonder
and solve illustration problems.

Next to my phone is a big yellow note pad. While I’m on the phone, I
jot down notes on this big yellow notepad but often, I just unwind and
draw.

Here are couple of examples of my note pad art.

The figures on the left are random Conan scribbles, and figures on the
right are Green Goblin poses that I was thinking for the Hasbro
package art.

I’m still at the San Diego Comic-Con. I’ll have a full report when I get back next week.

Here are some sketches of a new creator owned character that I’m playing with. I don’t want to reveal the name yet since it’s still in the developing stage and quite frankly, I really haven’t thought out the premise beyond dozen sketches and few notes.

But I’m thinking of doing a silent book with this character, telling the story only through her actions. Maybe I’ll test out the character through my buddy’s book at Image Comics…

Sketch from my reject files

Random nude figure sketch from my reject files.

Coming up with a striking pose is always a great challenge. I’m always scribbling pose ideas, from stick figures to fully realized images.

Most end up in my reject pile and forgotten.

But every now and then, I come back to my reject pile and reevaluate the poses with fresh eyes and try to save images.
